Praia Vermelha and the Streets of Urca

Our experience begins at Praia Vermelha, a small beach at the foot of Sugarloaf Mountain and one of the most beautiful spots in the neighborhood. From there, we’ll walk through the peaceful streets of Urca, admiring its architecture, charming houses, and views of Guanabara Bay. Along the way, we’ll also discover some interesting facts about the neighborhood and pass by places connected to Rio’s culture and recent history. Between stops, we’ll have plenty of opportunities to practice Portuguese while talking about the city, landscapes, everyday life, and the Carioca lifestyle.

The Mureta, Flutuante, and the Carioca Lifestyle

One of Urca’s most famous spots is its mureta, a low wall along Guanabara Bay that has become one of the favorite meeting places for Cariocas. It’s common to see people sitting there, chatting, enjoying a cold beer, and simply admiring the view.

Nearby is Flutuante, a restaurant floating on the waters of the bay, with beautiful views of Sugarloaf Mountain and Urca’s scenery. It’s another great place to enjoy the neighborhood’s relaxed atmosphere, have a drink or something to eat, and take in the view. We’ll end our experience enjoying this special atmosphere, speaking Portuguese, and watching the boats and mountains around us. Whether at the mureta or Flutuante, it’s the perfect moment to relax and experience a little of the authentic Carioca lifestyle.
