Today our professor, Lucas, took us on a true adventure to the world famous Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf Mountain). The ascent to the top of the mountain usually consists of two parts: during the first part you take a bondinho, or tram, up 220 meters to Morro da Urca, and once there, you board a second bondinho that takes you the rest of the way up to Pão de Açúcar. We didn’t do that, oh no! We went right past the tram station and began an ascent by foot and we huffed and puffed our way up a steep trail and didn’t stop, much, until we reached the top of the first mountain. It was a beautiful vigorous workout but well worth the effort. The view from the top of Morro da Urca was magnificent , albeit a bit cloudy. From there, we rode the tram to the top of Pāo de Açúcar where equally gorgeous views awaited us. By encouraging us to walk part of the way, Lucas gave us an unforgettable experience and allowed us to experience a part of the mountain most tourist never get to see. Thanks Lucas for another great RioLive! activity.

Experiencing the Sugarloaf Mountain on a cloudy day was an epic adventure! It might sound tough, but it turned out to be a hilarious and laid-back moment. The hike up to Morro da Urca was filled with jokes and laughter. Despite the seemingly gloomy weather, the view from the top was out of this world! Everyone was mesmerized by what they saw, and all the effort to get there totally paid off.
