Going to Forte de Leme was a great experience. I got to enjoy a nice hike on the way to the top of a forte with a beautiful view. I was able to see Pão de Açúcar and Christ the Redeemer from the top.
Colton, United States.
The Duque de Caxias Fortress, better known as Leme Fort, was built at the time of the Empire to protect the Guanabara Bay from invasions, especially Spanish. Although it is a place full of stories and with great preservation of the Atlantic Forest, it is little known to most Cariocas.
Even with the summer drizzle in Rio, we went with our students to get to know the Fort through a 20-minute paved trail, and we were able to see monkeys there, as well as enjoy the view that includes Corcovado, Copacabana beach, and Sugar Loaf Mountain.
