The Santa Marta favela tour was a wonderful experience! Good exercise, beautiful sites of the city, and great commentary on local culture. The tour guides were very friendly and knowledgeable, and our group felt safe and welcome. Very special visiting the famous Michael Jackson statue and seeing the local kids play soccer. Our students spent a great afternoon with new friends at Santa Marta with RioLIVE! Weekend. At first they were very excited about this opportunity to explore a different neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. They had the chance to walk around the community, talk to people, see views from the top of the favela and even play football with the kids there, a match that was won by the ‘gringos ‘ hahaha… Besides that, they also took some photo’s with the statue of Michael Jackson, who filmed a music video there for his song ”They Don’t Really Care About Us.” A great afternoon indeed!
