Ready to learn Portuguese while playing one of Brazil’s most popular sports on one of the most famous beaches in the world? Join our RioLIVE! Beach Soccer in Copacabana and enjoy an experience that combines sports, the beach, Brazilian culture, fun, and lots of Portuguese practice! During this activity, we’ll play beach soccer on the sands of Copacabana, learn a little more about Brazilians’ passion for football and, of course, take the opportunity to practice Portuguese in a natural and fun way.
Beach soccer, or futebol de areia in Portuguese, is a form of football played on sand. The sport has a strong connection to Brazilian beach culture and has become especially popular in coastal cities like Rio de Janeiro. Playing on sand makes everything a little different from traditional football: running requires more effort, the ball behaves differently, and players need to quickly adapt to the surface. This makes the game more dynamic, relaxed, and full of creative plays!
And is there a better place to experience all of this than Copacabana? With its famous promenade, long stretch of sand, and iconic Rio scenery, the beach is one of the greatest symbols of Rio de Janeiro’s lifestyle.
First, we’ll meet in Copacabana and organize our teams. Before the match begins, we’ll learn some Portuguese words and expressions related to football, sports, and the beach. Then, it’s time to hit the field, or rather, the sand!
We’ll divide the participants into teams and play some beach soccer matches in a relaxed and fun environment. It doesn’t matter if you’re a great football player or if you’ve barely ever kicked a ball: no previous experience is required! The most important thing is to participate, interact, and have fun. As with every RioLIVE! activity, Portuguese will be part of the entire experience. You’ll have the opportunity to talk to your classmates, learn new vocabulary, give instructions during the game, cheer for your team, and practice the language in a real-life situation.
Grab your sunscreen, put on some comfortable clothes, and come play football and speak Portuguese with us on the sands of Copacabana!
