Als Rio Live Aktivitaet stand am Mittwoch Capoeira auf dem Programm. Fuer fast alle von uns war es die erste Stunde und wir waren daher umso gespannter. Unser Lehrer und dessen Soehne haben sofort richtig losgelegt und uns die Basisschritte beigebracht. Zusaetzlich haben wir auch getrommelt und etwas ueber die Geschichte des Sports gelernt. Das Highlight war der Showkampf am Ende der Stunde. Wir haben uns ganz gut angestellt und sogar ein paar Radschlaege hinbekommen. Aber als wir dann gesehen haben, wie toll sich die Soehne des Meisters bewegen, konnten wir nur noch staunen. Es war eine super Erfahrung und ein absolutes Muss, wenn man schon einmal in Brasilien ist.

Yesterday we had a fun Capoeira class in Rio de Janeiro. We went to Grupo Senzala, located in Leme. The class was carried out by Mestre Toni Vargas who told us about the history of Capoeira and the different phases it had. With the African origin, Capoeira is considered a fight, game, dance and it depends a lot on the purpose of its use.
Our students were very excited to practice Capoeira. It was a really fun class, because the warm up had the catching rhythm of the drum and the berimbau. Besides playing capoeira our students learned how to play and sing the songs that encourage the capoeiristas (capoeira fighters) in their movements. In the end of our RioLIVE! Mestre Toni organized a real Roda de Capoeira, where we could practice capoeira in pairs. It was terrific.
