Cidade Sorriso
The RioLive! excursion to Niteroi was a great way to see the area around in Rio de Janeiro! We took the ferry across the bay from Rio to the neighboring town of Niterois. While on the ferry we could go out onto the front of the boat and get some great views of the dramatic hills, cliffs, islands, and ocean that make up the landscape of the bay and the city. Once in Niteroi, we went to the MAC (Museu de Arte Contemporânea), which was situated on the water and also had a backdrop of spectacular views of the bay. Inside the museum there were interesting displays of all different types of imaginitive pieces of art, and the building itself was a work of art with its unique shape and design. I had a great time exploring the area and learning a bit more about the culture with my classmates and teacher.
Cidade Sorriso. That was our RioLIVE! at this time, we visited the city of Niterói here in Rio de Janeiro, also known as Cidade Sorriso (Smile City) and Nikity. Located at the other side of the Guanabara’s Bay, Niterói is a very popular city because it has a very nice quality of life for its citizens and shelters a very big university too.
Our students from Argentina, Japan, Ecuador, United States and Mexico took this trip with us to explore this beautiful place. We started our RioLIVE! taking the ferry boat to Niterói, the students loved this experience because for most of them it was their first time and they could also stay outside of the ferry and take nice pictures of the bay and the city. When we finally arrived in Niterói, we took a bus to MAC (Contemporary Art Museum), a very beautiful and modern construction that is one of the most popular city’s landmarks. Inside the place, our Portuguese students could see some different art exhibitions and get more in contact with the museum. In some parts, they could also participate and leave messages for the next people who will visit the place.
We finished our RioLIVE! outside of the museum taking some beautiful pictures of Cidade Sorriso and practicing our Portuguese very much, of course. They loved this activity and we are sure that they will recommend Cidade Sorriso to their friends and family. What about you? Do you want to have fun, learn Portuguese and visit the best places?
