Feira de São Cristóvão or Centro Luiz Gonzaga de Tradições Nordestinas (Luiz Gonzaga Northeastern Traditions Center) is located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, in the Zona Norte (North Zone). It was named in honor of Luiz Gonzaga, the King of Baiao, the legendary musician who brought northeastern rhythms to the entire country. It’s a fair that promotes Northeastern culture and products. Here, you’ll find a collection of stalls selling everything from regional handicrafts to typical foods like acarajé and baião de dois. The Northeast of Brazil is a huge part of the country with a lot of different traditions, cultures, and places. That means this fair is an amazing place to experience a lot of Brazilian life that foreigners are not used to.
The fair is a place of joyful chaos, where every corner tells a different story—whether it’s a lively forró dance lesson or an intimate acoustic performance of traditional Brazilian songs. Once inside, the Feira de São Cristóvão offers endless opportunities for fun. At the fair, we will find Northestearn traditional: dresses, dishes, foods, fruits, gifts, handmade products, and music. We will see many people dancing forró; it’s a very popular and traditional dance in the Northeast of Brazil. So, if you want you can try dancing too!!
