Yesterday’s trip was filled with beautiful vistas of nature and the city with a touch of history for the area. The first stop was Parque de Catacumba, a relaxing natural park located across from Lagoa. After an envirgorating hike to the top, we were rewarded with breathtaking views of the park and Lagoa. Then we went to Lagoa to rent bikes and bicycle around the lake. What a refreshing experience it was! The Lagoa has many different things to do, like stop for a bite to eat, join in a sports game, exercise, walk, or just enjoy the views. We also saw some of the local wildlife, for example, a capybara grazing calmly by the lakeside as we were finishing the trip around Lagoa. Seeing Rio in this way reminded me of the amazing diversity here from wildlife, to landscape, to lifestyle.

Last Thursday we had an afternoon filled with fun at Lagoa. Our RioLIVE! started with a exciting walk through Parque da Catacumba. The students found the park to be very pretty and interesting. Besides that, they asked many questions about the Favela da Catacumba, that existed at that place decades ago. Now the area is a park protected by the government. When we got to the top, the students loved the view!
After that, we rented some bikes and rode around the Lagoa. The place is great to practice sports. We had a lot of fun while riding our bikes, and proved we are great athletes, since we were not tired at the end. When our RioLIVE! was almost over, the students had a grateful surprise, since they got to see a capibara that decided to say hi! Needless to say they took millions of pictures.
