Hello everybody! Today we will be learning the equivalent to the Future Perfect in Portuguese, also called “Futuro do Presente Composto do Indicativo”. This is the future version of another Dica we had, about the Present Perfect.
The “Futuro do Presente Composto do Indicativo” is a verb tense used to describe a situation that is expected, or planned, to happen before a specific moment in the future. It is a grammatical combination of a future timescale and the perfect tense (a grammatical aspect that indicates a completed event).
This verb tense is a composition, formed by the combination of an auxiliary verb and the main verb. The auxiliary verb “ter” is conjugated in the future perfect and the main verb appears in the participle.
But first let’s remind ourselves, what is a participle?
Regular Participle
1.Βͺ conjugação (-ar): | root of the verb + -ado |
2.Βͺ conjugação (-er): | root of the verb + -ido |
3.Βͺ conjugação (-ir): | root of the verb + -ido |
Irregular Verbs in the Participle
abrir | aberto |
cobrir | coberto |
dizer | dito |
escrever | escrito |
fazer | feito |
pΓ΄r | posto |
ver | visto |
vir | vindo |
Now, we just need to put the verb “ter” (in the future perfect simple) together with the main verb in the participle:
The Structure of Future Perfect
Pronoun | Auxiliary Verb | Participle |
Eu | terei | participle from the main verb |
Tu | terΓ‘s | participle from the main verb |
Ele | terΓ‘ | participle from the main verb |
NΓ³s | teremos | participle from the main verb |
VΓ³s | tereis | participle from the main verb |
Eles | terΓ£o | participle from the main verb |
