Learning the Portuguese words ending in -mente
We have a lot of Portuguese words ending in -mente. A lot of these words that end in –mente are adverbs and that’s exactly what we are going to study today. This help usΒ to identify these words and understand them in sentences.
Another important thing is: in English a lot of adverbs end with -ly. So, what is really interesting is that the majority of these words in English have a corresponding word in Portuguese that ends in –mente. Formation of adverbs ending in -mente in Portuguese

The adverbs ending in -mente replace a preposition followed by a noun:
AdverbsΒ replacing a preposition + noun
So, instead of using the prepositionΒ com (with) + another word, we can transform the noun used to make an adverb and use just one word to describe the same thing. Take a look to see how we do it:
