Ainda in Portuguese

What’s up, guys, are you ok? In our Dica today, we are going to talk about the usage of ainda in Portuguese.
We use the word ainda in Portuguese with different ideas. The first one is as an adverb of time, check this out:

Ainda in Portuguese

Você ainda estuda na Rio & Learn?
Do you still studt at Rio & Learn?

Você ainda não conhece o Rio de Janeiro?
Don’t you know Rio de Janeiro yet?

Eu ainda não sei falar árabe.
I can’t speak Arabic yet.

You’ll notice that in this context, things are not really certain.

Ainda as even

O Rio está ainda mais lindo do que era.
Rio is even more beautiful than it was before.

Agora ele fala ainda mais português do que quando chegou na Rio & Learn.
Now he speaks even more Portuguese compared to when he arrived at Rio & Learn

A festa ficou ainda mais interessante depois que começaram a tocar samba.
The party became even more interesting when they start playing samba.

Whenever we use the word ainda as even, we must also use the word mais to bring the idea of intensity.

Ainda as still

Eu ainda estou esperando meu amigo aqui fora.
I am still waiting my friend outside.

Ela ainda mora no Rio de Janeiro.
She still lives in Rio de Janeiro.

Ainda que in Portuguese

And don’t forget that we can also use the word ainda with the idea of embora. Take a look:

Ainda que você a ame, ela não ama você.
Even though you love her, she doesn’t love you.

Ainda que eu tire férias, não poderei viajar.
Even if I go on vacations, I won’t be able to travel.

Eles precisam que você chegue às 17h, ainda que tenha trânsito.
They need you to be there at 17h, even if there is traffic.
