How to Pronounce X in Portuguese

X with the sound of CH

Well, the X can have the same sound the CH makes…like a wheezing sound, very Carioca, like when you silence someone “Shhhhhh”. So now we will see in which cases this happens. Check it out:

After a Diphthong

Diphthongs are these too vowels that unite here and form a strong sound. We call int diphthongs. So let’s see these words:

A exceção (the exception) – X before C, sounds like SC

Auxiliar (auxiliary) – X here, after AU, sounds like the double S
Explícito (explicit) – So, just like here and here, before P, the X sounds like S
Texto (text) – Also, before T, it sounds like S, so, texto.
