Para sempre Mangueira

Last Saturday night Rio&Learn took about seven students to a samba school., The school itself was an enormous party in an enormous building full of people dancing and laughing. We were made very welcome and it was really great to feel part of the excitement. I even got my picture taken with the king and queen of the school!

Our RioLIVE! of the last saturday was visit at one of the most traditional samba schools in Rio de Janeiro, the Estação Primeira de Mangueira or simply, Mangueira. When we arrived at the place, we could realize a total different place from Copacabana. Being a samba school that honors it origins, it was necessary to know a little bit more about the history of the school.

With a samba-enredo (theme song) that talks about the Brazilian women and the support of the bateria (the band), our Portuguese students could practice their Portuguese with informal conversations and also trying to sing the song that leads the carnival of Mangueira. At last, we left the school very happy with a wonderful night that we had. Come you too and take part in our RioLIVE! Activities.
