Portuguese Future Tense

Ejemplo con el Futuro del Portugués.

What’s up, my friends! Let’s learn Portuguese?  Today we are going to study the future tense in Portuguese. We can use the future of the present or the immediate future to talk about things that will happen. Both can be used for similar situations.

Let’s take a look at the conjugation of regular verbs in the future tense in Portuguese. Note that we still pay attention to the verb endings of -AR, -ER or -IR!

Learn the regular conjugation of the Portuguese Future Tense

Conjugation of the Simple Future Tense in Portuguese. Future conjugation of the verb Estudar: Eu estudarei, você estudará, Ele/ela estudará, nós estudaremos, vocês estudarão, eles/elas estudarão. Future conjugation of the verb beber: Eu beberei, você beberá, ele/ela beberá, nós beberemos, vocês beberão, eles/elas beberão. Future conjugation of the verb partir : Eu partirei, você partirá, ele/ela partirá, nós partiremos, vocês partirão, ele/elas partirão.

Of course, there are irregular verbs in the future tense in Portuguese, that’s why we have another Dica about Irregular Future.

The present as future in Portuguese

So while learning Portuguese, perhaps you’ll listen to people using some verbs that are in the present that give an idea of the future, and I know that in theory it’s a bit scary, but actually it’s pretty simple. The only thing you must do is to use the presente with a particle that indicates that we are in the future. For example: “No Carnaval eles estão no Rio.”/ “During Carnival, they are in Rio.”. Since we are talking about a Carnival that hasn’t happened yet, we already know that we are talking about the future. Easy, right? If you want to learn more, just go to this other Dica!

The Immediate Future tense in Portuguese

The Immediate Futureis structured with the verb ir in the present tense, plus the infinitive form of the main verb we’re using.

Construction of Immediate Future in Portuguese: Verbo ir (to go) + infinitivo do verbo principal (infinitive of the main verb): Eu vou falar, você vai ler, ele/ela vai fazer, nós vamos escrever, vocês vão partir, eles/elas vão sair.

Now, you just have to choose which one you’re going to use each time. The future of the present and the immediate future in Portuguese have the same meaning and can be used in very similar situations. We are now going to see some examples using the verbs in the future tense in Portuguese:

I’ve just started online classes with Prof. Ana Carolina & she is the absolute best! It’s my first time learning Portuguese and I was speaking full sentences in the first class. Obrigada!

Small classes, diverse accents, and engaging professors make Rio & Learn Online a fantastic choice! I've been thrilled with my experience at Rio & Learn Online so far. The small class sizes (around 1-3 others students) allow for personalized attention and plenty of opportunities to practice speaking. What's more, having different professors throughout the program exposes you to various accents, preparing you for real-world interactions. I opted for the full-time program, which involves 2 hours of daily learning from Monday to Friday. After just over 12 weeks, I can confidently say my Portuguese has improved dramatically. The professors are incredibly engaging and encourage students to utilize real-life examples, solidifying the learning process. While I'm only halfway through the program, I'm confident in recommending Rio & Learn Online to anyone seeking to learn Portuguese in a supportive and effective environment. I've gone from being a complete beginner (only knowing hi and bye) to holding conversations - and I'm excited to see how much further I can progress! I'll be back with another review after completing the program, but for now: Rio & Learn Online - highly recommended!

Après 3 semaines que je suis dans cette école et je peux déjà parler portugais. Certe avec des erreurs mais j'ai fait des progrès fulgurant. En plus, du Lundi au Vendredi l'ecole propose des activitées qu'il appelle "Rio Live" ce qui permet de visiter en même temps Rio tout en parlant Portugais et de rencontrer des gens😃 Toute l'équipe est genial et est prêts à aider si besoin 😁
I've been taking the group online courses with Rio&Learn for 2 months. They offer a fantastic way to learn Portuguese and get speaking practice if you don't live in Brazil. The teachers are engaging and are able to adjust their level of Portuguese to whatever level you are at. Obrigado!
