Get ready to experience one of the most exciting moments before Rio’s Carnival officially begins! In this RioLIVE! Activity, we are going to the Noite dos Enredos, a special event held at the Cidade do Samba, where all twelve Special Group samba schools present the stories they will bring to the Sambadrome in the Rio Carnival 2027.
This is much more than a show. It is the first opportunity for the public to discover the themes, music and creative concepts that will inspire the next Carnival. Throughout the night, each samba school presents its new enredo (theme), accompanied by its bateria, singers, dancers and passionate supporters, creating an unforgettable atmosphere full of energy and emotion.
Whether you are a Carnival lover or discovering this tradition for the first time, this event offers a unique opportunity to experience one of Brazil’s greatest cultural treasures before the parades even begin.
Every samba school tells a different story through its parade. These stories can be about Brazilian history, Indigenous cultures, African heritage, famous personalities, literature, nature, social movements or legends from around the world.
During the event, we will learn what an enredo is, why it is so important, and how it becomes the inspiration for the costumes, floats, choreography and samba-enredo performed during Carnival.
As we watch the presentations, we will compare the themes, share our opinions and discover which samba schools become our favourites. It is also the perfect opportunity to learn more about the traditions, creativity and passion behind Rio’s Carnival.
This RioLIVE! is also a fantastic chance to practise Portuguese in an authentic cultural environment.
You will learn useful vocabulary related to Carnival, music, dance, history and Brazilian traditions while interacting with locals, asking questions, expressing opinions and talking about your favourite presentations.
Throughout the evening, we will encourage conversations about the different themes, performances and cultural references, making Portuguese learning fun, natural and unforgettable.

Instead of only watching the famous parades months later, you will experience the excitement of discovering the Carnival themes together with thousands of passionate samba fans.
