Meaning of Subir in Portuguese

When you were a child how did you play? Did you climb trees? Here, a lot of kids play at climbing trees… And now…. are you still a climber? Have you tried the Dois Irmãos hike or a more difficult one like Pedra da Gávea? If you like to go to the top of mountains, or just take stairs regularly, come and learn this verb you might need to use a lot.

Subir has many different meanings in other languages, this verb englobes the idea of going up somewhere. It’s an action of rising to another place that’s above the one you were before. This can be related to connotations that are actually physical or figurative.

You can subir to your apartment on the 9th floor or subir to the top of a tree. Subir to a country that’s located in the north. Figuratively you can subir your social status by showing progress. Also, you can subir files to an website, like an upload.
