Salve, salve people! All good? In today’s Dica we’ll talk about a very important topic for those who aim to communicate better in Portuguese. Do you know how to give suggestions in Portuguese? Let’s learn how to give, accept and refuse suggestions in Portuguese. There are some structures we need to follow for each of the situations. Pay attention to the dialogs we give as example and practice with the exercises.
First of all, take a look at a list of expressions we can use to give advice in Portuguese:

Maria: Claro! Eu acho que vocês deveriam visitar o Pão de Açúcar e o Corcovado. São dois lugares com vistas lindas.
João: É uma boa ideia! E as praias? As praias são boas? Estou pensando em visitar Búzios.
Maria: Sim. As praias são maravilhosas e a cidade de Búzios é muito bonita também. Mas, você não acha melhor conhecer também a Ilha Grande? É um lugar lindo!
João: Ilha Grande? Nunca ouvi falar.
Maria: Recomendo conhecer. Como vocês vão? Quanto tempo vão ficar?
João: Acho que vamos de avião. Vamos ficar lá por um mês.
Maria: Não seria melhor ir de ônibus ou carro? A viagem é longa, com certeza, daqui de São Paulo para o Rio são seis horas, mas é muito melhor para ver as paisagens e tirar belas fotos.
João: Obrigado pela sugestão, mas acho que vamos de avião mesmo.
Maria: Por que você não aproveita para matricular a Lauren na Rio & Learn? Ela vai poder aproveitar para aprender um pouco de português enquanto se divertem. Uma grande amiga minha da Espanha estudou lá e disse que a escola é muito boa.
João: Maria, que tal se você chamar o André e vamos todos juntos para o Rio?
Maria: É mesmo, né! Tenho certeza de que ele vai adorar. Até mais, João.
João: Até mais, Maria.
João: Maria, how are you?
Maria: João! Everything is great, how are you?
João: I’m doing great too. So? Any news?
Maria: Not really, you?
João: Actually, yes, Maria. Next week my girlfriend and I will go to Rio de Janeiro. The cidade maravilhosa.
Maria: That’s cool. I was there two months ago with André, my boyfriend, and it was really fun.
João : That’s good, Maria. Can you give me a few suggestions?
Maria: Of course! I think you should visit the Sugar Loaf and Corcovado. They are places with beautiful views.
João: That’s a good idea! And the beaches? Are the beaches good? I am thinking about going to Búzios.
Maria: Yes. The beaches are amazing and the city of Búzios is really pretty too. But, don’t you think it would be better to go to Ilha Grande? It’s an amazing place.
João: Ilha Grande? Never heard of it.
Maria: I recommend that you go there. How are you going? How long are you staying?
João: I think we will travel by plane. We will be there for a month.
Maria: Wouldn’t it be better to go by car or bus? The trip is long, of course, from São Paulo to Rio is 6 hours on the road, but it is way better to see the landscape and snap amazing pictures.
