What a view!

Yesterday we hiked Dois Irmãos maior. The hike was incredible! We arrived in the favela Vidigal and took a bus to the top of the favela, where the trail starts. The trail begins just past the soccer field, where teams were playing in the unrelenting heat. Even though we started ascending around 3:30, it was still pretty hot. The shade of the forest was a nice reprieve. We climbed for about an hour, stopping to take in views of Rochina and the ocean. The views at the top were well worth the climb! Brasilans and toursits were chilling at the top taking in the panorama of Rio.
Rio is always beautiful, but especially from this high point. You can see the beaches of Leblon, Ipenema, and Copacabana marking the outline of the city. You can see Pão da Açucar and Morro da Babilonia and the Cristo Redentor. It was late in the day so it was cool and windy at the top. We even got a chance to see a windsurfer taking a huge leap off the side of the rock and sailing towards the sea. We had perfect timing 🙂 The climb down is easy and after we meandered through the favela, stopping for delicious açai. If you get a chance to do this hike with RioLIVE!, DO IT!!
